Biodegradable matter is generally organic material such as plant and animal matter and other substances originating from living organisms, or artificial materials that are similar enough to plant and animal matter to be broken down by microorganisms.
Bioenergy is renewable energy made available from materials derived from biological sources. In its most narrow sense it is a synonym to biofuel. In its broader sense it includes biomass, the biological material used as a biofuel.
Biofertilizer is a substance which contains living microorganisms which, when applied to seed, plant surfaces, or soil, colonizes the rhizosphere or the interior of the plant and promotes growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrients. Biofertilizers are not fertilizers but they add nutrients through the natural processes of fixing atmospheric nitrogen, solubilizing phosphorus, and stimulating plant growth through the synthesis of growth promoting substances. Biofertilizers can be expected to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Biogas typically refers to a gas produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas originates from biogenic material and is a type of biofuel.

Chromium is a chemical element which has the symbol Cr and atomic number 24. It is a steely-gray, lustrous, hard metal that takes a high polish and has a high melting point. It is also odorless, tasteless, and malleable. Chromium was regarded with great interest because of its high corrosion resistance and hardness. A major development was the discovery that steel could be made highly resistant to corrosion and discoloration by adding chromium and nickel to form stainless steel. This application, along with chrome plating, is currently the highest-volume uses of the metal. Although trivalent chromium is required in trace amounts for sugar and lipid metabolism in humans and its deficiency may cause a disease called chromium deficiency, hexavalent chromium is a toxin and a carcinogen, so that abandoned chromium production sites need environmental cleanup.
A clay based absorbent is a loose sorbent material that is used for cleaning up liquid spills. Clay minerals are typically formed over long periods of time by the gradual chemical weathering of rocks, usually silicate-bearing, by low concentrations of carbonic acid and other diluted solvents.

Heavy metal contamination or pollution in water is the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater caused by human activities, or the contamination of industrial process water by a manufacturing activity.
A hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon, whereas other hydrocarbons with bonded compounds or impurities of sulfur or nitrogen are referred to as "impure", and remain somewhat erroneously referred to as hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are referred to as consisting of a "backbone" or "skeleton" composed entirely of carbon and hydrogen and other bonded compounds, and have a functional group that generally facilitates combustion.
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a chemical compound that smells like rotten eggs usually present in decaying organic material. Hydrophobic compounds are compounds that lack an affinity for water; tend to repel and not absorb water.
Hydrophobicity refers to the physical property of a molecule (known as a hydrophobe) that is repelled from a mass of water. Hydrophobic materials are used for oil removal from water, the management of oil spills, and chemical separation processes to remove non-polar from polar compounds.

Lignocellulosic biomass refers to plant biomass that is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Biomass comes in many different types, which may be grouped into four main categories: (1) wood residues (including sawmill and paper mill discards), (2) municipal paper waste, (3) agricultural residues, and (4) dedicated energy crops (which are mostly composed of fast growing tall, woody grasses).
A loose sorbent material is a loose or granular material used to absorb liquids.

Oil Absorbent Product is a product that absorbs oil and other hydrocarbon-based liquids. Oil absorbent products may be of the type that will absorb” oil –only” or oil and water-based liquids as well.
Oil spill control is the control of oil released into the marine or terrestrial environment; various methods to control oil spills include chemical dispersion, bioremediation, combustion, mechanical containment, absorption products such as OilMaster absorbents, and encapsulation.
OilMaster7X, from Terrenew, LLC is a highly absorbent product that is excellent to clean up hydrocarbon-based spills such as oil and gasoline. This sorbent is made from recycled farm fibers, is eco-friendly, biodegradable, renewable, non-carcinogenic and incinerable and land-fill friendly for efficient disposal. OilMaster7X is seven times more absorbent than typical clay-based products.
OilMaster absorbent pads, from Terrenew, LLC, are absorbent products in sheet form that are made from OilMaster7X and other plastic or non-plastic fibers. The majority of the fibers used in the pad are from renewable resources.
OilMaster Speedy Blend, from Terrenew, LLC is an effective absorbent product used to clean up all spills including hydrocarbon-based spills such as oil and gasoline. This sorbent is made from recycled compost fibers, is eco-friendly, biodegradable, renewable, non-carcinogenic and incinerable and land-fill friendly for efficient disposal. It is also a wind and flame resistant so it can be effectively used indoors or outdoors. Speedy blend is twice as absorbent as typical clay-based products.

A natural resource is a renewable resource if it is replaced by natural processes at a rate comparable or faster than its rate of consumption by humans. Some natural renewable resources such as geothermal power, fresh water, timber, and biomass must be carefully managed to avoid exceeding the worlds capacity to replenish them. A life cycle assessment provides a systematic means of evaluating renewability. The term has a connotation of sustainability of the natural environment.

Sewage treatment, or domestic wastewater treatment, is the process of removing contaminants from wastewater and household sewage, both runoff (effluents) and domestic. It includes physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove physical, chemical and biological contaminants. Its objective is to produce a waste stream (or treated effluent) and a solid waste or sludge suitable for discharge or reuse back into the environment.
Sour gas is natural gas or any other gas containing significant amounts of hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
Sorbent is a material that sorbs another substance; i.e. that has the capacity or tendency to take it up by either absorption (such as a sponge absorbing water) or adsorption (whereby a gas or liquid accumulates onto the surface of a solid).
Spill cleanup generally refers to programs that respond to incidents involving spills or release of hazardous materials (i.e., chemicals, gases, flammable liquids or solids, corrosive materials, radioactive materials, toxic materials, infectious substances, explosives or other dangerous substances) that occur at industrial plant sites; along railway lines; on highways or waterways or other transportation routes; or in other settings. Spill responders conduct an assessment of the site and potential impacts, take steps to stop the leakage and contain the material to curtail the spread, clean up the site and properly dispose of waste material.
Spill containment refers to spills of chemicals, oils, sewage, etc. which are contained within a barrier or drainage system rather than being absorbed at the surface.

Wastewater is the water and other potential impurities or contaminants that result from an industrial process using water as part of the process.
Wastewater metal filtration is the removal of dissolved heavy metals from industrial wastewater.
Wind resistant absorbents are absorbents that are sufficiently heavy enough to be used in windy conditions outdoors for remediation purposes or indoors where open doors or industrial fans may create breezy conditions. Wind resistant absorbents, such as Speedy Blend, must remain stationary on the spill and not blow around.
